Northwest Connecticut Rapid Response Fund: Real Help, Right When It’s Needed
In March 2025, the United Way of Northwest Connecticut launched a
pilot Rapid Response Fund in North Canaan, where 48% of households
are classified as ALICE or living in poverty.
This fund truly impacted families in that area. We are looking to expand
this program in other areas.
A couple examples:
The Rapid response fund allowed a single mom whose back windshield
was smashed out by a tree that fell on the car. Mom had 2 small
children in car seats and was driving them around with a garbage bag
covering the back window. With the funds received from the rapid
response, she was able to get her window fixed so she could safely
transport her children.
The rapid response fund was able to help a child attend a special needs
program at her school.
