St. John Paul the Great Academy Cereal Food Drive Event for Stock the Shelves
On Friday, October 17th, the students of St. John Paul the Great gathered in the school gymnasium to witness the results of their very successful cereal box collection effort. The fourth annual event yielded 2232 boxes of cereal which was distributed to the 12 local area food banks supported by Stock the Shelves. Boxes were collected from the students through personal donations and collection events outside local grocery stores. Parent volunteers spent hours creating the display which spelled out the first letters of the Academy: S J P T G. With a “3-2-1” prompt from Father Ihemedu, the first box was toppled. Students cheered as the remaining 2231 fell over. Middle school students assisted volunteers who packed the cereal boxes into larger boxes for ease of distribution. Representatives from the local food banks were on hand to cheer them on and take their share back to their organizations. Their gratitude was evidenced by smiles, laughter and even tears of joy. In addition to the cereal, a monetary donation of $450.00 was received.
