FISH DIRECTOR NAMED PERSON OF THE YEAR

The United Way of Northwest Connecticut extends congratulations to Deirdre Houlihan DiCara, Executive Director of FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity, who has been named the Register Citizen's "2015 Person of the Year" in recognition of her efforts to help people in need.  Prior to her appointment at FISH in 2013, she  spent 23 years heading the Girl Scout Council of Northwestern CT.  As the director of FISH, she oversees the shelter, food pantry, and programs that include health services and life skills. Last year FISH served 111,000 meals to 1,917 individuals and provided shelter for 11,710 nights to 84 individuals, including 59 adults, 11 children, and 14 veterans.  More recently, FISH held a special "Rally to end Hunger and Homelessness".
