Northwest CT Diaper Drive

The Northwest Connecticut Diaper Drive, which has been underway since the summer, has already raised $450 towards this worthy endeavor.

This is the 4th year that the United Way has conducted the drive, which began as a collaboration with the Register Citizen.  The money raised is used to purchase diapers that are distributed to local non-profits, day cares, and domestic violence shelters.

The cost of diapers is an expense that can compete with other essentials such as food, shelter, and gas.  While food stamps, WIC and local food banks can help out with baby food, diapers and not typically covered by such programs.  Babies that are left in soiled diapers are prone to rashes and other diseases such as hepatitis.
